PSG vs Lyon Match Preview & Betting Tips

The biggest game in France this weekend is the clash between PSG who are undefeated in Ligue 1 and Lyon who don’t know about losing for more than two months. Obviously, the hosts are huge favorites here, but Lyon have shown that they know how to slay giants by beating Man City in England. So, what should you expect from the Sunday’s game? Who’s gonna be the happier side when the battle of the Parc des Princes finishes? Find out in this PSG vs Lyon match preview!

PSG

Not only are they by far the best team in the French Ligue 1, but they are among the best teams on the planet right now. PSG have arguably the best attack in the world, with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani leading the way. They are also super-strong in defense, but they do seem soft in the middle.

PSG’s midfield appears to be the only area in which they could do with some improvements. We saw on several occasions that they are not too great at game management. They know how to defend, they know how to attack, but just passing the ball around till the end of the match is not their expertise. And that nearly cost them dearly on several occasions this season.

Because of this, PSG allow more goals that their fans would love. They conceded at least a goal in four out of previous five matches, even though they played against some pretty weak opponents, e.g. Red Star in the Champions League. But, I guess that is how Tuhel likes his players to play. And that’s actually a good thing. It would be a real shame not to let such amazing attackers do what they do best.

Lyon

Similarly to PSG, Lyon are also very impressive when it comes to the final third. They have some really fantastic attackers, including the French international Nabil Fekir, one of Ivory Coast’s best prospects Maxwell Cornet, ex-Man Utd forward Memphis Depay, and former Celtic superstar Moussa Dembele. And, of course, I mustn’t forget their top scorer this season, a pacey striker from Burkina Faso, Bertrand Traore.

With such talented players in the team, Lyon have no problems scoring. Actually, this team has scored in every single game since August. And that’s a pretty impressive achievement considering that they played against some heavyweights like Marseille and Nant in the Ligue 1 and Manchester City in the Champions League.

But, will their attacking prowess be enough to win points against the mighty PSG? I honestly don’t think so, but Lyon did manage to surprise everyone and beat PSG in January. However, that game didn’t take place in Paris, where PSG won each of the previous seven meetings with Lyon.

PSG vs Lyon Match Prediction

The difference in quality is huge and that is why I have no doubts that PSG will be the winning team. But, I also think there is a good chance that Lyon will score at least once in this game. And that means that betting on a large number of goals is a very wise decision.
