Poland

After a disappointing performance at the World Cup this summer, in which they failed to get to the knockout stage, Poland are trying to show that they got much more to offer. And they’ve already showed it in the Nations League when they managed to snatch a point from the duel with Italy, in which they were the visiting team.

Zielinski was Poland’s scorer in that game and one of the most influential players on the pitch. And he’s a midfielder, while Poland’s real strength lies in the final third. That’s where they have one of the best strikers in the world today, Robert Lewandowski. They also have Milik in the team, as well as Piatek, who’s currently the top scorer of Italian Serie A with 9 goals to his name already.

With so much power in the attack, Poland are among the most lethal teams in Europe. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they’re poor in other areas. They have a pretty decent midfield and a strong defense. But, are they good enough to beat Portugal?

Portugal

Similarly to Poland, Portugal also can’t be too proud of their World Cup performances. They did reach the knockout stage, but didn’t go much far. Uruguay was the team that sent them home. But, this doesn’t mean they’re not good enough. On the contrary, Portugal are still one of the best teams on the planet.

Their biggest strength comes from their team spirit. And in my opinion, that’s achievement of their manager Fernando Santos who’s been in charge for more than four years. And thanks to a high team spirit, this team can do well even when they’re playing without their best player. I’m talking, of course, about Cristiano Ronaldo, who will miss this match.

He missed the game with Italy as well, but Portugal managed to win all three points. They’re obviously much more than just Ronaldo and if you take a look at their squad you will see why that is the case. They’re strong in literally every position on the pitch and a few of their players are currently playing in the form of their lives.

This particularly goes for Andre Silva who’s been brilliant since he joined Sevilla this summer. This guy has scored seven goals in La Liga already, even though only eight rounds have passed. That makes him the second-best scorer in the league at the moment.

Possible Lineups

Poland:

Fabianski – Glik, Bendarek, Bereszynski, Reca – Krychowiak, Klich, Kurzawa, Blaszczynkowski, Zielinski – Lewandowski

Portugal:

Rui Patricio – Pepe, Dias, Cancelo, Rui – Neves, Carvalho, Pizzi – Bernardo Silva, Bruma, Andre Silva

Poland vs Portugal Match Prediction

The whole point of the Nations League is to make the duels more interesting. In this competition, the strongest European teams are pitted against each other and anything can happen in such duels. Exactly that is the case in this game in which Portugal are the favorites. Still, I don’t think their job is gonna be easy, not only because Poland are a decent team but also because they’re playing in front of their own crowd.
