If you’re gonna trust the bookies, Liverpool are the second-biggest favorite for winning the Premier League this season, just behind the current champions, Manchester City. Of course, the competition is extremely fierce, so if they really want to challenge the title, the Reds will have to play well from the very beginning. This means that they will need to beat West Ham on Sunday afternoon at the Anfield.
Liverpool
After reaching the final of the Champions League this May, Liverpool are now thought of as one of the best sides, not only in England, but the whole world. Their best player last season was Mo Salah, who’s once again expected to perform great and compete for the best player award in the 2018/2019 season.
Of course, Liverpool is much more than Salah, especially after this summer transfer window in which they brought several excellent players. The biggest signing was Alisson, who came from Roma for 62.5 million Euro. He’s considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment, so Liverpool aren’t gonna be easy to score against anymore.
They also brought two defensive midfielders, Fabinho from Monaco and Keita from Leipzig. And the icing on the cake was the signature of Xherdan Shaquiri. He’s probably going to be spend most of the season on the bench, but his signature is bound to make Liverpool even more dangerous in the attack.
All considered, it seems that Klopp’s boys definitely have what it takes to challenge the title. And not just the title of the English Premier League, but maybe Champions League as well.
West Ham
The Hammers almost got relegated last season, in which they had serious problems with their management, players, and even their fans. In 2017/2018, this team was managed first by Slaven Bilic, then by David Moyes, and their current manager is Manuel Pellegrini. The experienced Chilean manager has managed plenty of big-name clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester City, so the Hammers are putting a lot of hope in his skills.
Of course, managers don’t win games; players do. And West Ham do have a pretty great squad this season. Actually, they had a good team last season as well, but now they’re even better after signing several top-class players this summer.
West Ham paid 40.5 million Euro for the transfer of Felipe Anderson from Lazio. They also brought defender Issa Diop and winger Andriy Yarmolenko. They now seem like a pretty tough team that can grab points even against some big Premier League teams. But, can they snatch at least a point against Liverpool? Well, they can certainly try…
