With 6 points each, both Uruguay and Russia are going to play in the Round of 16 of the World Cup 2018. But, who’s gonna finish on the top spot of the Group A? That’s what we’re going to find out after the Uruguay vs. Russia clash on Monday afternoon at the Cosmos Arena in Samara. If you would like to win some money off this match, then you need to read through this match preview and check out the betting tips and the end.
Saying that they were impressive in the first two games at the tournament would be an overstatement, but Uruguay players did their job. They got the maximum number of points from the two games they played, which is what actually counts. They even have a good chance to finish on the top of the group table, which would mean that they’d get to play against the runner-up from the Group B, which is most likely going to be Portugal (assuming they don’t lose to Iran and Spain beat Morocco).
But, in order to finish as the group winners, Uruguay have no other option but to beat Russia. The reason is that the goal difference is very much in the favor of the host of the tournament. Uruguay have scored only 2 goals so far, while the Russians have put away 8!
So, can Uruguay beat Russia in front of their crowd? Judging by the player quality, they can! This is a team that has some of the best attackers on the planet. I’m talking, of course, about Luis Suarez and Edindon Cavani. The bad news for Uruguay fans is that these guys don’t seem too inspiring for the moment, but knowing their abilities, that can change quite easily.
Uruguay are also super-powerful in defense, as well. Led by Atletico Madrid duo of center-backs, Gimenez and Godin, Uruguay have managed to keep a clean sheet in both games they played so far. Can they do the same against Russia? Well, it doesn’t depend on them only, but the Russians as well.
Russia have been really impressive so far, both against Saudi Arabia and Egypt. But, truth be told, they haven’t yet faced as strong opponent as Uruguay. They will have the support of their fans to give them a boost, but can their players actually get anything out of this match?
The thing is that although Russia have some pretty decent players in the team, they don’t seem to possess the same level of talent as the Uruguayans. Of course, this doesn’t mean they will go out on the pitch waving a white flag. Instead, they’ll probably do the same they did in the first two matches of the tournament – try to outscore the opponent.
Winning or at least drawing this game would mean finishing on the top of the group. Even more importantly a good result against Uruguay would give them a lot of confidence ahead of the Round of 16, where they will probably get to play against either Portugal or Spain, depending on what happens in the final round of the group stage.

Uruguay vs. Russia Match Prediction
Russia did very well in the two previous games, but they haven’t yet played against a team that’s as strong as Uruguay. That said, I really think that Uruguay have the advantage. Surely, Russians will work hard to get a good result, but a team with Suarez and Cavani in the attack can beat almost any opponent, nonetheless Russia.
