The basic rules and strategies for blackjack and betting with blockchain tech – Part 1

In crypto casinos, there are more and more new betting games appearing, which strategies are not yet completely invented. However, blackjack is not in a group of the new betting games. It is a very popular and old game, with a massive amount of available materials, books and even scientific papers on its strategy. Although it is usually a human game against a casino, blackjack is not a completely case-dependent game. History knows cases where smart players defeated casinos on astronomical sums, just like the famous “MIT Blackjack Team”. Even more money than in traditional casinos you can earn in crypto casinos, which are much cheaper for organizers to run, which makes offered jackpots bigger. In some situations, in blackjack the advantage is on the player’s side. Of course, this does not mean that after reading this article you will break the bank and crush the organizers of crypto casinos with child’s ease, but if you want to increase your chance of winning significantly, we introduce you to the basic blackjack’s rules, strategy and how to play games with crypto.

Rules

Although blackjack is not one of the new betting games which started to appear recently in crypto casinos, you may not know its rules if you have only played roulette or poker so far. Let us recall the basic rules of blackjack. The goal of this game is to get the number of points as close as 21, but not higher. The highest hand is Blackjack which is an ace (11 points) and any card from a ten to a king (10 points). There are from one to even eight decks of cards used. The less the amount of decks is, the better for the player.

In the beginning, the player and the dealer receive two cards. The player has both cards revealed and the dealer has one. The player can get a card (hit), do not get (stand), double the stake (double down), split the card (split), or insure.

If a player has more than 21 points after picking the cards, he loses the bet and the dealer takes his chips. If the player has 21 points or less, the dealer discovers his face down card and depending on the number of points he can draw more cards. The dealer must play according to the following rules: take the card if he has 16 points or less and do not take more cards when he has 17 points or more (regardless of how many points the player has). The one with the sum of points closer to or equal to 21 wins.

Basic strategy

Unlike in most new betting games, in blackjack, the most profitable strategy for the player, thanks to which he can reduce the casino’s advantage only to 0.5%, is the so-called basic strategy. You can use it when there are four to eight decks used, the dealer hits on a soft 17, a double is allowed after a split, and only original bets are lost on dealer’s Blackjack. See the chart below:

S = Stand

H = Hit

Dh = Double (if not allowed, then hit)

Ds = Double (if not allowed, then stand)

SP = Split

SU = Surrender (if not allowed, then hit)

Insurance

You should never use insurance in this strategy.

European blackjack

In crypto casinos, new betting games usually have only one version but blackjack is so old that there have been a lot of its various formats already invented. In Europe, blackjack is played a little bit differently. It is based on ENHC variant (European no hole card), the dealer deals only one card (face up). In this version, the strategy changes are as follows:

• 11 (on the player) versus 10 (on the dealer) – hit
• A-A versus A – hit
• 8-8 versus A – hit
• 8-8 vs 10 – hit
