The first Rome derby of the season takes place on Saturday afternoon. Although both sides use the Stadio Olimpico as their home venue, AS Roma are the hosts this time. This means that the majority of the people on the stands will be their supporters. And that can mean a lot when the Rome derby is in question. The fans will surely give their best to help their boys leave the poor run behind and improve their position on the Serie A table. But, you can be sure their arch-rivals Lazio will do all they can to ruin Roma’s plans.
This Wednesday, Roma put an end to their disastrous form by beating Frosinone 4:0. It looks like that game came at the right moment for Roma, as they needed to beat someone after losing to Bologna and drawing with Chievo earlier in September. Actually, their poor run stretches back even further to August when they played 3:3 with Atalanta at home.
But, those days seem to be over now. Roma played fantastic in the Frosinone game and showed that they do have a potential to reach a high positon on the Serie A table. They have some really great players in the team, who have lots of experience playing at top level. They also have some amazing prospects, like Ante Coric and Justin Kluivert who are yet to show their talent to the world.
In the match with Lazio though, Roma will probably rely on their most experienced players, like their captain De Rossi, who’s probably gonna be their key man in this game. The reason why De Rossi’s role is so important is that he is Roma’s best midfielder currently, despite being 35 years of age. Now that Nainggolan and Strootman have left the club, he will have to step up and do his utmost to lead Roma to victory.
Unlike Roma who made some big changes in their squad this summer, Lazio made only a couple of new signings. Correa joined from Sevilla and Acerbi came in from Sassuolo. When it comes to transfers out, Lazio sold only a few players, most notable, Felipe Anderson. And de Vrij has left to Inter on a free transfer.
This means that the current squad of Lazio is more or less the same it was last season when they finished very high on the table. Speaking of their table position, Lazio are again flying very high. They have 12 points, which puts them among the top 4 Serie A teams.
But, will they stay there after the Rome derby? Judging by their recent form, they might. Lazio have won every match in September, with their previous defeat happening in late August when they played the mighty Juventus in Turin.
They also won on Wednesday, beating Udinese in an away game 2:1. The reason why I’m mentioning this game is that Lazio coach, Simone Inzaghi, decided to rest a couple of his key man in that duel, so that they would be fit and ready to face Roma.

Roma vs Lazio Match Prediction
Both teams have quality in depth, so it’s impossible to tell which team’s better. I think we’re gonna see a very close game, which will probably end in a draw.
