AS Roma is the team that knocked out Real Madrid’s biggest rival Barcelona last season. Can they cause problems to Los Blancos as well? Although this is only the first round of the Champions League, this game does have a huge importance. It may be crucial for deciding who’s gonna win the top spot of the Group G.
Group G is where CSKA Moscow and Victoria Plzen will try to make a surprise and somehow book their spot in the knockouts. As Los Blancos are expected to win against these two teams, their biggest obstacle in securing the top spot in the group is AS Roma. And because the Italian side has already proved they’re very tough to beat in Rome, Real Madid will have to do all in their power to win all three points at Santiago Bernabeu.
Of course, the Champions League title holders do have the quality to beat AS Roma, especially at their own turf. Actually, at home, Real Madrid have lost only two Champions League games in the period of more than five years. And they played their part in this competition each year.
Another reason why the fans of Los Blancos should be hopeful ahead of the Wednesday night’s match is that their players have been playing very well since the new season has started. They did play draw last weekend against Athletic Bilbao, but before that, they won three La Liga games straight.
The best thing is that Los Blancos are playing like a team, without a single man standing out. Their top scorer is Benzema, followed by Bale and Sergio Ramos. Isco has also scored one goal this season, but more importantly, he’s been playing very well creating chances for his teammates. The same goes for Asensio, Vázquez, Ceballos, and of course, Modric and Kroos, who have been playing at a top level for the past couple of seasons continuously.
AS Roma have won only one game so far in Serie A. Okay, the season has just started recently, but their fans were expecting more from them. This is the team that finished on the 3rd place in the league last season, but if they want to do the same this time as well, they will need to start playing much, much better.
And the same goes for the Champions League as well. Unless they get in a better form quickly, AS Roma will have problems securing a knockout place. CSKA and Victoria will be extra motivated to snatch at least a few points from them in the upcoming weeks.
Speaking of their poor form, they played draw with Chievo last weekend at their own stadium. The final score was 2:2 even though AS Roma had a 2:0 lead at the half time. That surely can’t do too well for their morale ahead of the trip to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid vs AS Roma Match Prediction
It would be really strange if we saw anything other than an easy Real Madrid win. Not only are they a better side, but they’re also playing in front of their own crowd. I’m sure AS Roma will work hard in defense, but I doubt they will be able to stop Los Blancos of finding the net at least a couple of times.
