The first London derby of the season will see Chelsea playing Arsenal at the Stamford Bridge. Both teams have new managers in charge and both teams have seen some big changes in their squad this summer. That said, we still have no idea what to expect from them this season. Will they be title contenders or will the Blues and the Gunners disappoint their fans? Perhaps an even more important question is how these teams are gonna perform on Saturday afternoon? Read this Chelsea vs Arsenal match preview and you may find the answer!
The Blues started the season in the fifth gear, beating Huddersfield 3-0 last weekend. What’s really impressive about that victory is that their coach, Maurizio Sarri picked a rather strange team for that game. For example, he decided to leave his best player, Eden Hazard on the bench until very late in the match.
He also chose Alvaro Morata ahead of Olivier Giroud, who was a favorite of the previous manager. Speaking of favorites, Sarri’s companion from Napoli, Jorginho, who joined Chelsea for more than 60 million Euro is now in charge of taking penalties. And he did his role very well in the game against Huddersfield, scoring his team’s second goal from the penalty spot.
Another debutant in Chelsea jersey was the goalkeeper Kepa, who managed to keep a clean sheet. He did perform very well and despite making a couple of dubious decisions early on, managed to stay unbeaten. Of course, you may say that he had an easy job against a mediocre team of Huddersfield and that his real challenge comes this Saturday.
Same as Chelsea, Arsenal got a new manager this summer. But, unlike Chelsea who have changed a number of managers over the years, Arsenal had only Arsene Wenger since 1990s. So, it’s definitely a strange feeling to see them playing under the helm of Unai Emery.
Surely, the new coach has a good pedigree – he managed a number of top-class clubs including Sevilla and PSG. However, there is a pressure on him both from Arsenal fans and the board to do well with this club, starting from the very first season. He’s expected to lead the Gunners to booking a place in the Champions League, which isn’t going to be easy.
Emery didn’t start his tenure too well. His team was defeated in the opening round to Manchester City at the Emirates. Okay, losing to the current Premier League champions isn’t too embarrassing, but the Gunners didn’t play well in that match. They struggled to create chances and eventually had only 3 shots on goal. So, it’s not a surprise that the final score was 2:0 Manchester City.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Match Prediction
The bookies think Chelsea are the favorites here. You can’t disagree if you take a look at the squads of these teams, as well as their recent performances. But, the fact is that Arsenal will have to go for a win here. Losing two games in a row wouldn’t be good for their confidence and the only way to outplay the Blues seems to be by attacking them from the very beginning. For that reason, I think it’s likely that we will see goals on both ends, maybe even during the first 45.
