The Hammers made their first Premier League win of the season in the previous round, but is that enough of a moral boost for them to be ready to take on the mighty Chelsea? Maybe this West Ham vs Chelsea match preview will help you find the answer to who’s gonna win this London Derby.
It’s really strange to see West Ham struggling so much in the Premier League. And it’s been going on for years now. This club just can’t pull themselves together even though they’re pretty strong financially. Actually, in the last couple of years, West Ham saw some big investments. They built a new stadium, signed a number of quality players, and have even hired a trophy-winning manager. But, they’re just not doing well.
Of course, that can change easily and the Hammers can become a respectable team that could challenge one of the Euro spots. They certainly do have the player quality for competing in one of Europe’s competitions. They also have a good manager to lead those players to glory.
Actually, Manuel Pellegrini should be the man in the spotlight. This is a guy who led some of the most illustrious teams on the planet and he certainly has the knowledge to lead West Ham out of the pit. In the previous round, we saw that this team can perform well when they need to.
In the match with Everton, played in Liverpool, Pellegrini’s boys showed a real class. This particularly goes for Yarmolenko, a guy who scored two marvelous goals. West Ham also played well at the back in that game, despite allowing one goal.
If they put on the same level of performance against their city rivals, the Hammers do have the right to hope for winning at least a point. The problem is that they will have to play without a couple of key men. The biggest issue is the knee problem that Marko Arnautovic has, a guy who’s been one of their best players this season. If he misses the match, their job is gonna be much more difficult.
What’s probably going to decide this game is the battle in the center of the pitch. One of the reasons why West Ham had problems in the first couple of games of the season is that they were very soft in the middle. Pellegrini decided to play with two men in the midfield, Noble and Wilshere, who’re just too slow sometimes. But, he’s learned his lesson and West Ham manager is probably gonna put three players in the center of the pitch.
Chelsea midfielders are gonna have to outsmart West Ham’s if they wanna win this game. The good news for the fans of the Blues is that their strongest weapon this season is their midfield. Chelsea have a number of top-class midfielders, who should have no problems keeping the possession. And considering how great Eden Hazard has been playing, they need to be big favorites in this duel.
What may slightly worry Chelsea fans is the fitness of their defenders, particularly those guys in the center back positions. Gary Cahill is out because of an injury, while Christensen and Ampadu still haven’t played a single game this season. This means that Luiz and Rudiger have to do all the work.
And with the Europa League duel with PAOK played just three days before the West Ham clash, these guys might feel a bit tired. And that can be a real problem when faced against such a physical player like West Ham’s number 7, Marko Arnautovic.

West Ham vs Chelsea Match Prediction
Although Chelsea are favorites here, I don’t think their job is going to be easy. In fact, my advice is to stay from betting on the outcome of this game. Instead, better try with goals. I think we’ll see them on both ends.
