Tottenham
Since Mauricio Pochettino was appointed their manager in 2014, the Spurs haven’t suffered double of defeats to Arsenal in the Premier League. And they surely don’t want it to happen this weekend. In the first game against Arsenal this season, which was played at the Gunners’ turf, the score was 4:2 for the hosts. The Spurs now want to get their revenge.
Obviously, that’s not the main reason why the Spurs are determined to get a win here. They need points in order to keep up with other teams near the table summit. Their title dreams have gone down in flames; Liverpool and Man City now have 9 and 8 points more than them, respectively. But, they were pretty much in the title race just a week ago, but they then lost to Burnley, followed by a defeat to Chelsea in the previous round.
So, it’s fair to say that they’re going through a little bit of crisis in the Premier League, but knowing Tottenham, they might bounce back sooner than expected. One of the reasons why they might get back on the winning track this weekend is that their squad is almost entirely free of injuries. And that’s something that hasn’t been the case for a while.
Arsenal
The Gunners had some really good time in the second half of February, winning three games in a row, scoring 10 goals along the way. It all started with the comeback against BATE in the Europa League. After losing in Belarus, they beat BATE 3:0 at home and got themselves to the next chapter of the competition.
Then two wins in the Premier League followed. First, they routinely beat Southampton 2:0, then they simply destroyed Watford 5:1. Still, all of those three games were played at their stadium. This Saturday, the Spurs are traveling a few miles to the west to take on their city rivals.
Speaking of stadiums, the recent matches between the two saw the home team winning much more often than the away side. In fact, in their previous 5 Premier League duels, the team that was the host ended as the match winner. And the last time Arsenal beat Spurs in an away game in the Premier League was back in March 2014.
Another reason why winning at the Wembley won’t be easy for Arsenal is that they again have problems with injuries. And again, most of the injured players are defenders. What this means is that in order to get anything out of this game, they will need to focus on attack, not defense.
