In Scottish Premiership, they’re going to say farewell to 2018 in style – the Old Firm Derby is scheduled for Saturday! It’s played at the Ibrox Stadium, the home ground of Glasgow Rangers where they’re going to try to beat Celtic for the first time since March 2012. But, can they actually do such a thing? To find the answer, read our Rangers vs Celtic prediction and betting tips!
Rangers are currently losing the race in the Scottish Premiership table against their arch-rival Celtic who have also played one game fewer than them. This means that if Rangers lost on Saturday, they’d basically give away the title to Celtic.
But, they have no intention of doing so. At least not without a fight. They have a pretty decent team this season, particularly at the back. In fact, only Celtic have allowed fewer goals this season than them. And apart from keeping their net safe, Rangers defenders have also been doing well attacking-wise. For example, their right-back James Tavernier is currently the man with the most assists in the league.
They’ve been equally impressive in the final third, but the problem is that it’s mostly thanks to one guy – Alfredo Morales. The Colombian attacker has been in a tremendous form this season and is correctly the top scorer in the Premiership. The problem is that his teammates in the final third haven’t been that good. Actually, Morelos is the only Rangers player who’s scored 10+ goals; none of the others hasn’t scored more than 5.
This is the second time Brandon Rodger will lead his team against Steven Gerrard’s boys. The first time, when the match was played at Celtic Park, Rodger’s team were the victors. But, the score was only 1:0 as Gerrard’s side put up a lot of fight in front of their goal. If Celtic want to win this time as well, they’re going to have to work much, much harder.
It’s fair to expect Steven Gerrard to choose a defensive-minded strategy for this game; the question is how Rodgers is going to respond to that. Sure, Celtic have been phenomenal in the attack, but finding the net against super-motivated Rangers is not going to be easy.
Another reason why they’re probably not going to have an easy game on weekend is that, according to SkySports, Tom Rogic is going to miss the game. One of their best midfielders, who’s already scored 3 goals and made 5 assists, is reportedly traveling to Abu Dhabi to play for Australia in the Asia Cup.
The good news is that Celtic have plenty of other top-quality midfielders in the team, many of them are very eager to prove their worth to the fans and management alike. One of those is Ryan Christie, who spent two previous seasons on a loan at Aberdeen and who’s hoping to establish himself as a regular Celtic player.

Rangers vs Celtic Prediction
This is going to be a very, very close game, in which the main battle is probably going to take place in the center of the pitch. Still, I think Celtic are the better of the two and even though they probably won’t win it convincingly, I think they’re going to get all 3 points in the end.
