Monaco haven’t started the season as their fans were expecting. They’re very low on the table, but there’s still plenty of time to get back in the race for a place among top teams in the Ligue 1. But, in order to get to the top, this team needs to start winning. And the Friday’s game against Nimes seems like an ideal opportunity for them to get three points. So, can they do that or Nimes will pull off a great feat and avoid defeat at the Stade Louis II? Find out in this Monaco vs Nimes match preview!
After five rounds of the new season of Ligue 1, Monaco have only 5 points. This is a team that had probably secretly hoped to challenge the title, but it seems their dreams are impossible to come true as PSG already have 10 points more.
But, Monaco will certainly give their best to finish near the top of the table and secure a place on the Euro stage once again. Mind you, this season they’re competing in the Champions League, which might have also moved their focus from the domestic championship.
Of course, the most important reason why they’re not performing very well is that they made some big changes in their team over the summer. A few important players left the club (Lemar, Fabinho, Moutinho, etc.), while the new signings need time to get used to the new environment.
Still, despite the changes in the squad, Monaco did pretty well against Atletico Madrid earlier this week. Despite losing that game, they did play okay. In fact, they had more goal attempts than Atleti, but a big majority of those attempts went far off goal.
Sure, the fact that they couldn’t score more than one goal against Atletico Madrid doesn’t just mean that their forwards were missing their chances. It also means that Atleti did a really good job in defense. As Nimes’ defenders can’t compare to Atleti, Monaco are firm favorites in this game.
This team is a new kid on the block, having been promoted to the top French flight for the first time in this century. They surely want to stay in Ligue 1 as long as possible and so far, they seem to be on the right track. With seven points after five rounds, they’re on a fairly respectable place right now.
They won their points by being great in the attack. In fact, they’ve scored 12 goals so far, which makes them the 3rd most-lethal team in Ligue 1 at the moment. They could’ve won even more points if their defenders were better. Unfortunately for their fans, their defense has been pretty leaky, allowing 12 goals already. Only Guingamp have allowed more goals so far.
What gives them confidence ahead of the duel with Monaco is that they’ve managed to score against some really tough teams. For example, they managed to beat Marseille 3:1 at home and win against Angers on the road. They also managed to score twice against the mighty PSG, although they lost that match. And in the previous round, Nimes played 3:3 with Bordeaux.

Monaco vs Nimes Match Prediction
Nimes are terrible at defending and Monaco need to take advantage of that. Maybe we’ll see a few goals in their net as well, but I’m sure Monaco will be able to outscore the opponent.
