Germany vs. Mexico Match Preview & Betting Tips

The current world champions start the new World Cup 2018 campaign with a match against Mexico. The match takes place this Sunday afternoon at the Stadion Luzhniki in Moscow. Germany are obviously the favorites here, but Mexico definitely seem like a team that could cause a big upset. That’s why it’s best to learn more about the game before putting your money on it. So, here’s a match preview that will help you out!

Germany

Even though they won the World Cup 2014, Germany did have to play qualifiers to get to Russia. That’s actually what they wanted, as it allowed their players to stay in form in competitive matches. And they did really well in the qualifiers, winning all 10 games, with a really impressive goal difference of 43:4.

What makes Germany stand out from the crowd is that they don’t have one star player – their entire squad is made of stars. For example, no German player scored more than 5 goals. Instead, over 20 different players scored at least one.

Germany are also very strong in defense, where they have Bayern’s duo of center-backs, Boateng and Hummels. There’s another Bayern player in the back line – the right-back position will probably be taken by Joshua Kimmich.

Speaking of Bayern’s players, we’re likely to see Manuel Neuer between the posts, even though an injury stopped him from playing almost the entire 2017/2018 season. But, he’s back now, which is definitely a major boost for Germany, who now seem almost impossible to score against. Of course, Mexico will definitely give it a try.

Mexico

Mexico did very well in the qualifiers, finishing on the top of their CONCACAF group, after winning 6 out of 10 matches. Obviously, not as impressive as Germany, but Mexico managed to book themselves a spot at the World Cup. Their might not be able to finish the group stage on the top of the table, but they definitely plan to get to the Round of 16.

Apart from Germany, they play in the same group with Sweden and South Korea, so the second spot does seem like a viable option. But, to get there, they need to play well. And if they lose heavily to Germany, it may impact their future performances.

For that reason, I expect Mexico to put on a good performance on Sunday afternoon. They probably won’t get any points out of that game, but I’m sure they’ll keep their dignity. That said, you can be certain that all eleven Mexico players will work hard defensively to prevent Germans from scoring too many times.

Possible Lineups

Germany:

Neuer – Boateng, Hummels, Kimmich, Plattenhardt – Khedira, Kroos, Draxler, Ozil, Muller – Werner

Mexico:

Ochoa – Márquez, Moreno, Layún, Ayala – Herrera, Fabian, Giovani dos Santos, Guardado – Hernández, Jimenez

Germany vs. Mexico Match Prediction

It would be a real disaster if Germany failed to win this one. But, then again, we probably won’t see a dominant win. This is the World Cup and all teams want to give their best. Mexico players are going to work very hard in order to avoid getting humiliated while the whole world is watching. Surely, they probably won’t be able to avoid defeat, but Germany probably won’t beat them with a big goal difference.
