Manchester United’s start to the season has been a fairly underwhelming one, which means that it would come as a surprise to nobody that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already under mounting pressure. Many believed that the Norwegian would come under pressure as soon as United’s form dipped, with there being no doubts that the quality in the squad should see the Red Devils competing for trophies this term.
However, a run of one win in five games in all competitions has seen the odds on Solskjaer to be the next manager to lose his job slashed. But, who could be among the front-runners to replace the Norwegian if he departs Old Trafford over the coming weeks?
Mauricio Pochettino
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Mauricio Pochettino since the Argentinean’s days at Tottenham Hotspur. Pochettino has come under increasing pressure at PSG over the past couple of weeks, and his job security likely wouldn’t have been helped with a 2-0 defeat against Rennes in Ligue 1. Pochettino will be back in the frame whenever Solskjaer departs Old Trafford, and PSG may only be too happy to allow the former boss Spurs to leave the club if results don’t improve.
However, Pochettino is by no means a safe bet for United, as the Argentinean has led PSG to just the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions during his stay at the Parisians. The Red Devils may be looking for a manager with a proven record to secure the trophies that the fans demand. However, he will remain a leading contender among sports enthusiasts on leading betting sites like Betway.
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers is another name that will be near the top of the Betway betting markets when it comes to finding a replacement at Old Trafford. One factor that could put fans off the idea of Rodgers may be his link with Liverpool, who he guided to second in the Premier League before his firing in 2015. Rodgers was able to put himself back on the map with a trophy-laden stay in the SPL with Celtic, winning the Premiership and Scottish Cup on two occasions, and the Scottish League Cup three times.
Since moving to Leicester City, he has guided the Foxes to back-to-back fifth-place finishes, but has also brought silverware with FA Cup and Community Shield success in the past 12 months. Rodgers may now be looking for a new challenge as there is a growing feeling that he has hit a wall with Leicester, as they look like outsiders in the Betway betting to challenge for a Champions League place this season.
Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte will likely be in the frame for any big job that becomes available, as the Italian has been out of work since parting company with Inter Milan in the summer. Conte isn’t likely to offer United the security that they need, as he hasn’t stayed at his last four jobs for an extended period. However, he has always had success in every job that he has held.
He won Serie A titles with Juventus and Inter Milan, and also won the Premier League and FA Cup during his two years with Chelsea. Conte’s tactics may also be an issue for the United hierarchy, as his defensive style of play isn’t likely to go down well with the wealth of attacking talent that United have in their squad.
