Chelsea will look to build up on their good form when they take on manager-less Everton in the League Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. It will be interesting to see if Ronald Koeman’s sacking will improve the fortunes of the Toffees in this Chelsea vs Everton match.

The Blues looked out of form and sliding towards a defeat during the weekend when they trailed Watford 2-1 going into the final 20 minutes of the match. Following defeats to Manchester City and Crystal Palace another defeat would have put Antonio Conte’s men in jeopardy and that realization probably sparked their charge. A quickfire response from Michy Batshuayi and Cesar Azpilicueta earned them a fortuitous 4-2 win that gave Conte some breathing space. However, it was a far from satisfactory performance from the Blues who are still struggling to reach the highs of last season. But, the sight of a troubled Everton side is the best news Conte could dream of, going into this League Cup fixture. With games against Bournemouth and Roma lined up in the coming week, Conte will look to rotate his squad.

For Everton, it couldn’t have got any worse. A disappointing start to the season got worse when the 5-2 humbling at home to Arsenal dragged them into the relegation zone. With Koeman sacked on Monday afternoon and David Unsworth taking charge for the visitors, it could be a difficult situation for the Toffees. The sale of Romelu Lukaku in the summer seems to have sucked goals out of Everton’s attack which has been their biggest problem this season. But, as the season wore on, even their defensive frailties hampered the team as Toffees look to wriggle out of this situation. As they look to end their poor run of form, Everton could put their strongest possible team to improve the morale.
