Brazil vs. Mexico Match Preview & Betting Tips

Samara’s Cosmos Arena is the place where the battle between Brazil and Mexico will take place. Even though they’re still considered the number 1 favorite for winning the trophy, Brazil haven’t been too impressive so far. And that’s exactly what’s giving their opponents a lot of hope ahead of the duel on Monday afternoon. So, can Mexico go past mighty Brazil? Hopefully this match preview will help you find out the answer to that question.

Neymar, Brazil football national team

Brazil

A number of heavyweights have already got knocked out of the tournament – Germany, Argentina, Spain, etc. Will Brazil go home as well? The Selecao is a team made of real superstars, who seem capable of beating any opponent in the world, nonetheless Mexico. But, Brazil still haven’t shown what they got.

But, their form is improving constantly. After a draw with Switzerland, they struggled a lot in the game against Costa Rica, but managed to get a victory. And in the final game of the Group E, they beat Serbia without too many problems. Now the time has come for Brazil to switch to the fifth gear if they’re planning to go to the final.

Their attacking players definitely need to start playing better. To be precise, they need to start scoring more goals. So far, Brazil have scored only 5 goals, which for a team of their class is not much. Moreover, Neymar is the only Brazil forward who’s scored a goal on this tournament; the others were scored by midfielders (Coutinho and Paulinho) and a defender (Silva).

They’re now taking on Mexico, a team that’s allowed only one goal so far. This means that Brazil’s attackers will have to be on top of their game if they want to take their team to the quarter final. Otherwise, the match could go to penalties, where anything can happen.

Mexico

This team seems to perform the best when considered the underdog. They beat Germany in the first round, followed by a win over South Korea. Then, in the third match of the group stage, they got destroyed by Sweden 3:0. That defeat certainly had a horrible effect on them, as their players seemed really devastated after the 90 minutes.

But, the lady luck smiled at them and Mexico got themselves a place in the Round of 16. Now they’re facing another tough challenge, which may be their toughest so far. They will have to work really hard defensively if they want to get anything out of this game. They did very well in defense against Germany, so they’ll probably take on the same kind of approach against Brazil.

But, Brazil aren’t Germany. This is a team that has pacey players all over the place, so Mexico can’t hope to hit them on the break. Furthermore, Brazil are very quick with the ball in the final third, so Mexico’s defenders will have to be on the back foot all the time. But, can they sustain the pressure for the whole 90 minutes?

Possible Lineups

Brazil:

Alisson – Silva, Miranda, Danilo, Marcelo – Casemiro, Paulinho, Coutinho – Neymar, Willian, Gabriel Jesus

Mexico:

Ochoa – Marquez, Moreno, Layun, Ayala – Herrera, Fabian, Giovani dos Santos, Guardado, Lozano – Hernandez

Brazil vs. Mexico Match Prediction

Brazil have seen that at this World Cup even the biggest favorites can lose if they don’t take each game seriously. This is why I expect Tite’s men to deal with Mexico professionally and score a few goals straight away. Of course, it’s not only up to them – it also depends on the form of Mexico. But, the quality is definitely on the side of the 5-time world champions.
