The new season of German Bundesliga starts this Friday with the opening match taking place in Munich. I’m talking about the clash between the current champions, Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim. It’s not a big surprise that Bayern are big favorites here, but can Hoffenheim maybe pull off a big upset? Find out in this Bayern Munich vs Hoffenheim match preview!
Last week, Bayern demolished Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Super Cup. The reason why this match is so important is not that they thrashed the opponents 5:0, but the fact that this was the first non-friendly game of Bayern Munich with the new manager in charge. The man in question is Niko Kovac, who used to manage Eintracht Frankfurt but show no sympathy for his ex-club in that game. You can expect the same from him in the duel with Hoffenheim – he’ll probably select his best XI for the Bundesliga opener.
Bayern are once again huge favorites for winning the league. It’s not a surprise, considering that their squad is basically the same as it was in the season 2017/2018. There were a couple departures over the summer, the big one being the transfer of Arturo Vidal to Barcelona. Of course, Bayern do have planty of players to replace him; otherwise, they wouldn’t have allowed him to go.
During the transfer period, Bayern spent very little cash. However, they did bring in several hot prospects. The biggest signing they made was the capture of Leon Goretzka, who came from Schalke on a free transfer. The 23-year-old midfielder is expected to have a very bright future in the club and knowing how talented he is, it won’t be a surprise if Kovac picked him to play against Hoffenheim.
This is the team that finished on the 3rd spot on Bundesliga table last season, showing that they definitely have the quality. The problem is that no one in Germany has so much quality as Bayern Munich, so obviously, Hoffenheim are big underdogs here. Of course, they aren’t traveling to Bavaria waving a white flag. You can be sure that they will try to win some points on Friday evening.
They did manage to beat Bayern on two occasions in the past, both in 2017. The problem is that both of those wins happened when they played at their home. Every time they faced Bayern in Munich, they failed to win. In fact, they managed to pull out a draw on only two occasions in history.
But, this year, they have many fresh players in the team. They were pretty busy this summer, bringing in Belfodil from Standard, Bittencourt from Koln, Brenet from PSV, Grifo from M’gladbach, Nuhu from Young Boys, and a few more decent players. Who knows, maybe one of these guys has what it takes to help Hoffenheim snatch a point off Bayern?

Bayern Munich vs Hoffenheim Match Prediction
I have no doubt that Bayern will win this. Unfortunately, bookies think that as well, hence the odds are very low. For that reason, my advice is to bet on a high number of goals in Hoffenheim’s net.
