We’ll start this Argentina vs Chile prediction by reminding ourselves of what happened in the semi-final. Argentina lost to their arch-rival Brazil. The score was 2:0, although Argentina had a fair number of chances. Some of their players were also angry at the ref, thinking he was supposed to award them with a penalty.

What seems to be the biggest issue with this team is that they have a disparity in quality between the players. Their final third is probably the best in the world, with Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero being their key forwards. Their defense is not that bad, but many other South American teams have more talented and more physically impressive players. And then there’s their defense. It seems very leaky, so the fact that they’ve kept two clean sheets on this tournament does seem like a good achievement.
But, will they be able to do the same against Chile? They did it the last time they met. It was in the World Cup qualification when Argentina won 1:0. Perhaps a similar scenario awaits us this time as well? Probably not…

The winner of the Copa America Centenario three years ago has made their fans sorrowful in the semi-final. They got hammered by Peru, one of the worst-ranked teams in South America. The final score was 3:0 and some of Chile players really embarrassed themselves in that game. Vargas, for example, missed a penalty after trying a sort of ‘panenka shot’.
They did, however, have more shots on goal than Peru. They also had the ball in their possession much longer than the opponent but were unable to make it count. Playing against disciplined Peru defense proved to be a mission impossible for them. The good news is that in the third-place match, they’re playing against Argentina, a team that’s expected to attack. This means that Chile’s pacey forwards will have their chance to score from counter-attacks.
Chile definitely has some really good player on the team. And although many of the key players are already in their thirties, they do seem physically fit.
