Ajax vs Real Madrid Prediction & Betting Tips

After a poor start of the season, Real Madrid are back in the game. They’re on the 2nd place in La Liga and have a very good chance to get to the next stage of the Champions League. Of course, in order to do that, they need to do better than Ajax. And that won’t be easy, at least not in the first leg which is played at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, where Ajax have always been tough. So, can Los Blancos finish their job in the first games? Find out in our Ajax vs Real Madrid prediction & betting tips!

Ajax

The form of Ajax has been pretty strange lately. They have been excellent in the final third, while their defense has been very disappointing. To see what we’re talking about, just take a look at Ajax’ goal difference in 2019 – in 5 games since the year started, they scored 15 goals while allowing 12.

The disappointing defense has gotten them in a bad situation in Eredivisie. They’re currently on the second place, trailing behind PSV by 6 points. And this means that their minds are currently occupied not only by the Champions League but Eredivisie as well.

Still, Ajax do have an amazing squad, with players that seem capable of causing upset on Wednesday evening. Actually, it seems that it’s been decades since Ajax have been this strong. Their best players, e.g. Tadic, Zyech, Schone, Huntelaar, etc. are players with a lot of experience, who know how to remain calm in big games.

And they proved they know how to play big games in the group stage, where they played draws against Bayern Munich twice. They also beat Benfica once and once played draw with them, while both of the games against AEK Athens finished in Ajax’ favor.

Real Madrid

This season, Los Blancos had a period in which they were terrible. From late September to the end of October 2018, they lost 4 La Liga games and one in the Champions League (against CSKA). At that point, many thought Real Madrid’s plans had been ruined. But, they bounced back, both in La Liga and in Champions League.

In La Liga, they’re currently second after beating Atletico Madrid in the previous round. And in the Champions League, they’re huge favorites against Ajax. Their recent run has been sensational – Los Blancos have won 6 out of previous 7 matches. The one they didn’t win was a draw against Barcelona in Copa Del Rey, which was played at Camp Nou.

What needs to worry them slightly is how their players are going to respond if Ajax attack them with all they got. The thing is that Real Madrid’s defense hasn’t been too impressive this season. With 27 goals allowed in La Liga, they’re not among the best defensive teams. In fact, 5 Spanish teams have allowed fewer goals, while two other teams have conceded the same number as them. This means that it won’t be easy for Courtois to keep a clean sheet on Wednesday evening.
